it all begins with an idea.
Retake is a nonprofit that offers free photos and family portraits to people who have lost their homes and belongings due to disasters such as hurricanes, fires, or earthquakes, or to people who are from war-torn or conflict areas and are now refugees, immigrants, migrants, humanitarian parolees,
displaced people, or asylum seekers.
Our goal is to hear your stories, create a photoshoot that captures what's important to you, and deliver you new keepsakes as you rebuild your life. We want to create new family memories that you can pass down to future generations.
Retake is based in Wilmington, NC, USA, but we travel to locations to photograph recipients. Created in January 2020, Danielle Desnoyers founded it while living as an expat in Vietnam. She was a freelance photographer who worked with international clients, and she went on numerous nonprofit photography trips to India and Cambodia. Earlier in her career, she had been a photojournalist in Egypt and had worked with nonprofits with locations around the world. Through her travels and work, she saw how important photographs were to people of all different backgrounds.
Your donations help give free portraits to survivors of disasters or conflicts. Our team travels to the families, hears their stories, has their photoshoots, beautifully edits the photos, prints and frames the images, and delivers the photographs to the families. The more support we receive, the more people we are able to photograph. Thank you for your generosity. Because of you, we can give new keepsakes as they rebuild their lives.
